Variac 200-CM Circa mid-1940s

I inherited this old variable alternating current transformer from my father-in-law many years ago. I really like using this bit of antique hardware technology.

He was a radio / radar technician in WWII.

I was looking around on the internet to find out more about this gizmo and learned that these units in a modern iteration are still being produced.

I don't do much with my "Variac" except to control the speed of my older electric drills that are without an internal speed control in the trigger.

It's my only photo today and so goes to the top of my list for my blip.

I do like the image though as it is so very, very nerdy ;-)
