Fantasy

I have read many fantasy books from authors like Tolkien, Tad Williams, Feist, and many others. I stopped this as it was too much repetition: some seemingly nobody must go on a quest and fight monsters and dragons to save a kind of medieval world, helped by dwarfs, elves, or giants and magic.
Now I started reading Game of Thrones and I am completely absorbed, it is fantasy and the cover shows that there will be dragons but the characters are very interesting and the intrigues and complots seem to be more important than elves or magic.

There is a long way to read, as I believe there are already four books and the first is 700 pages. If the author George Martin can keep up this level it will be wonderful escapism.
