Local Hero – of Sorts
This personage - Lalli - epitomizes something of our national mentality. Legend has it his home was visited by the British bishop Henry – back in 1156, when the clergyman had arrived in Finland to convert us pagans. Lalli was out on an errand and when he came back home, his wife Kerttu told him that the bishop had been arrogant and eaten up their foods. Lalli knocked him out with an axe. He of course was punished but somehow ordinary Finns have always felt he had a point.
The altercation took place in Köyliö where this statue can be found.
