Rocky Mountains National Park, CO
A quick backblip as yesterday's day was super long: we left at 8am and returned shortly before 10pm, on a day-long visit to that wonderful park.
This is a late afternoon shot at just over 12,000ft (4,000m) on our way back. I was awestruck (as well as out of breath) at the succession of mountain ranges in the distance. It's all very humbling! Here is an article I just published with additional pix: https://pointdevueonline.wordpress.com/2018/08/01/colorado-rocky-mountain-national-park/
There are two roads through that park: the Old Falls River road (the first road ever through the park; it's dirt packed, one way only, and full of switch backs and vertiginous cliffs but offers a slower pace to take in the vistas); and, the Trail Ridge road (fully paved with lots of pull overs for vistas as well as trail heads further into the park), which we took on the way back out. As we did, we came across a bunch of elks (see extra) just munching away a stone's throw from the street: majestic beasts!
In between our journey, my daughter and I also went on a two-hour horseback trail ride. That was sweet but I now wish I had extra 'padding' in the right place as mon derriere is really sore! ;)
