Whittington Heath

I was invited to play bridge at a fund raising day at a local golf club. This club has been in existance from the late 19th Century and is surrounded by history. The original building was the grandstand for horse racing - a very well supported activity for decades. The club house is built near to where the finish line was, the main straight of the race track (and the building's ornate Victoriana) still clearly visible.
The club is now seriously under threat from govermnent plans for HS2. This a high cost engineering project to provide a very high speed train from London through Birmingham and on to Manchester. I did find out that discusions are at an advanced stage in the planning. Needless to say the club members are very unhappy about losing it's excellent course and the loss of it's heritage.
