Priory-ties
This week I've struggled to focus on a difficult proposal I've got to write, as it's about somewhere I'm not yet familiar with. My aim is that after the weekend I'll return with a sharper focus, and nail it.
A couple of streets away from my flat is this ancient building: the 'Cellarer's Chequer', part of a monastery complex that stood in this part of Cambridge, but of which only two structures remain. The Cellarer was an important figure in the monastery, involved in procuring and storing provisions. The monks would have had to butter him up to access this storehouse for their red wine and beef shanks.
