2018 Saturday — Runa in Concert in the Vineyards

This was an enjoyable fun evening at Castoro Cellars. The view was vineyards for miles and miles. The evening was warm with a mild breeze coming from the Pacific to cool the crowd.

The catered dinner was delicious. Prime grade smoked tri-tip sandwich with Zinfandel BBQ sauce, blue cheese-roasted kale potato salad, grilled vegetable salad (zuchini, squash, red peppers and red onions). For dessert: double chocolate chip cookie. Oh yeah, and a bottle of Castoro Cellars wine.

Wikipedia explains, “Runa is a Celtic music group. They combine the traditional music of Ireland and Scotland with modern music such as folk and jazz. The band members are based in Philadelphia, Nashville, and Chicago - they come from Ireland, USA and Canada.”

“RUNA consists of vocalist and step-dancer, Shannon Lambert-Ryan of Philadelphia, Dublin-born guitarist, Fionán de Barra, Cheryl Prashker of Canada on percussion, Zach White of St. Louis on guitar, vocals and mandolin, and Maggie White of Kentucky on the fiddle and Mandolin.”

This is our second Saturday evening in the vineyard with slowly ripening grapes and with musicians whose desire is to sing and play and dance. We’re sure we’ll have more evenings in the Castoro Cellars vineyard.

Our bonus this evening was watching the waxing crescent moon as we journeyed toward the ocean on Hwy#46. The moment was magical. The highway was empty. The sky was a light shade of dark. The crescent would fall behind a hill and then we’d round a corner to see it again. A left turn on Hwy#1 and then we passed the tiny community of Harmony, and when we saw the lights of Morro Bay and Cayucos, we stopped in a wide turnout to face north for our last glance at that beautiful moon.
