Last campsite, in the setting sun
Yes it really did glow gold like that!
And the moon was already up.
You’ll be able to see the back of my swag tied up to the desert oak tree, facing away from the prevailing wind. The cold at night was a problem, more for some than others. I was thankful I’d taken a thermal sleeping bag liner, to have under the supplied doona. We then zipped up the insect screen and swag cover. Some wrapped their swags with their tarps. Frost on the swags in the mornings!
We had 1 of only 2 punctures today. I think plug repairs from the first puncture blew out. There haven’t been any other vehicle problems at all.
Someone asked about cooking tasks. The cooking was all done by staff and we guests only helped with washing up.
We didn’t share the driving either as it was all done by the 5 wonderful staff guys. 4WD driving in the conditions on the Canning Stock Route is tricky and challenging, and although I enjoyed my unscheduled 2 days’ driving, we were, as the saying has it, along for the ride, albeit rough & bumpy!
We did get to visit the Giles Weather Station today, although the planned balloon release didn’t happen, due to the radar being broken. It’s hard getting things fixed out the back of the Outback!
