Mt Beadell ...

... and a theodolite Memorial to Len Beadell.

Len Beadell was a surveyor, road builder, bushman, artist and author, responsible for constructing over 6000 km of roads and opening up isolated desert areas (some 2.5 million square kilometres) of central Australia from 1947 to 1963. Beadell is sometimes called "the last true Australian explorer", a truly amazing man.

We saw many camels during our drive south, and I’ve included one in Extras.

In all, there were originally 18 guests on this trip, and 5 staff. We were down to 17 guests after the Tagalong driver was evacuated by helicopter.
Our 5 incredible staff consisted of the owner/director/chiefchef/organiser, who drove the lead vehicle. No.2 vehicle was the kitchen vehicle, especially built and provisioned for these expeditions.
No.3 vehicle carried all the swags, plus camp chairs & stools - a mighty load!
No.4 vehicle carried everyone’s soft duffel bags, covered by a tarp. The dust still got in!
And No.5 vehicle carried the spare fuel and some dry goods, with firewood sometimes stacked high on top.

We 17 guests did appreciate that firewood, with fires being much needed for cooking, hot water, and warmth. Every night when we arrived at our campsite we would choose our swagsites, about 50m from all the vehicles, and then start carrying dead branches back to our fire area, plus our swags, stretchers and bags back to our sites. We tied LED lights to our site so we could find our way back in the dark!
