A cycle down the valley
I woke up with very stiff and sore legs today, there is nothing like a steep downhill hike to really work all those leg muscles. We decided to have an easier day today, and rather cycle than hike. Our chosen route was down the Prattigauer Valley to Landquart, a distance of 38km. I have an e-bike, and it is a gradual descent down the valley so how hard could it be?
Well, I did not factor in the very strong headwind of about 25km per hour, so it was hard going at times. However it was very enjoyable cycling along past fields of wheat and corn with the river rushing by. The route uses a combination of gravel tracks, disused old roads and cycle paths so we hardly had to share our journey with any cars. When we got to Landquart we got the train back to Klosters, which only took about 30 minutes.
On our journey we passed the Sunniberg Bridge which is a real engineering feat and you can read about it in the link.
Thomas did not come with us - he went up the main mountain in the village and did some downhill biking, and then cycled back down the mountain again. Downhill biking is a very popular sport here in the summer, they have built many tracks and raised jumps for the cyclists - it is very easy to get hurt and we have had a few holidays here when the boys have had some serious grazes with cuts and bruises - thankfully today there were no mishaps!
Although I seldom watch sport on TV, I actually watched the football match last night. It was a real shame that England lost the match but they can still be commended for getting so far and for uniting the country over one hot summer the way they have. In my ignorant opinion it looked like there were a few opportunities to score which were lost, perhaps the pressure was just too much.
