Sally Mair - Loving life

Seals on the Forth

As if I hadn't had enough of boats (6) and Islands (5) last week, I took a New Zealand friend out to Inchcolm on the Forth Belle today.
We had to go from Port Edgar as there was a cruise ship in... See extra - 2000 passengers and around 1000 crew apparently and coming every 12 days or so. I'm glad I don't live in South Queensferry, the parking areas are blocked off and buses wait to take passengers into Edinburgh. I'm not sure what local people get out of the visit.
The cruise ships have to anchor out in the firth as they are too wide to get into the cruise port at Leith and too high to get under the Forth Bridges!
I love Inchcolm, it's my favourite trip when we have visitors and the weather cleared by lunchtime too.
We had a great time and I introduced myself to 'Mr Meles!' on the island. He suggested that after the abbey, we braved the dive bombing gulls and visited the WW1 tunnel which is on the eastern end of the island. It was new to me so I enjoyed that. Nice to meet a blipper there, a great job in good weather.
These grey seals amused me, perched in the middle of the firth on a buoy, they were very laid back and posed beautifully for us!
Extra is of the beautiful abbey and the less lovely cruise ship.
