Caen Hill (Sunday 8th July 2018)
A red kite greeted me when I arrived at Caen Hill Locks this evening, and there was a heron fishing in a side pound. I was looking for the swan family as it was over a month since I had seen any of them. At first there was no trace, but when I was about to leave I saw one of them dabbling among the water lilies, and then the other. There were no cygnets to be seen but I could hear some mewing from some small waterfowl, possibly a cygnet lurking in the reeds or possibly one of the several moorhen chicks.
