Two-named Engine

This saddle-tank engine was employed taking quarry stone to build the dam for the Nidd Valley Water Supply Scheme. Originally named Mitchell, after the Waterworks Engineer at the time but renamed Illingworth, Mitchell's successor, who oversaw completion of the project. At present the engine bears both names, but on opposite sides ( see extra).
We were privileged to have an unofficial guided tour of the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway at Embsay when we wandered in after dinner for a look around. John Beesley explained much of the history of several other engines (mainly saddle-tanks) and carriages, showing us the workshop, following his shift as a volunteer and having had an early start to his day.

From our accommodation in Embsay we have an open view with donkeys, sheep, hare and cats, besides the goats and dogs, both working and household pet.

It seems a shame to move on tomorrow, for a family lunch on our way to South Wales.
