The Best Country Pub in Britain

My Sister and Brother in Law are visiting for a couple of days which was a good excuse to visit some local hostelries.

This tiny pub far off the beaten track in Fritham has been deemed by the Good Pub Guide on several occasions as the Best Country Pub in Britain. It is a Free House dating from the 1600s and is part of a working farm and is a thatched cottage with 19th century red-brick additions and comprises three small low beamed rooms with giant open fireplaces the central room of which is known as the unofficial Parliament of the New Forest.

No fancy food here and none in the evenings but locally sourced produce beautifully presented with nothing priced over £8. The ploughmans and pork pies that we sampled were to die for. Beer lovers have seven casks of ales from within a 40 mile radius to choose from.

If you are ever in the area I urge you to visit this gem of a pub.
