A day of delights

We covered a lot of ground today, with many stops along the way. Most of the stops were for geocaching, my sister's hobby that I enjoy as well. We stopped at a sculpture park created by an intriguing man, Veijo Ronkkonen. He worked at a paper mill in Parikkala, near the Russian border. From his first paycheck as a sixteen year old he bought ten apple tree starts, which became an important part of his art garden in later years. He created about 450 statues from cement, which now adorn the garden. This from Wikipedia. It was very fascinating - so glad we stopped. The first extra is from there. The second extra is from Punkaharju, a beautiful ridge surrounded by water on both sides. We stopped to eat our lunch and for many of the geocaches. The main blip is of Olavinlinna, a medieval castle in Savonlinna. I joined a guided tour, and learned a lot. And almost everywhere, the roadsides are covered in wildflowers!
