Long hot walk

It was our turn to lead the group walk and host the group supper. As we chose a longer walk, 9.5 miles, there were only 7 of us walking, but 15 came for supper.

We met early, as far up the Breamish valley as cars were allowed, and did a wonderful round by Alnhammoor over the hills to High and Low Bleakhope before taking a steep track up onto a high moor to return to the cars. The day was hot, 25 degrees, but on the high moor there was a light breeze which was very welcome.

Unfortunately this was fanning the flames on the still raging moor fire on the army range at Otterburn. The MOD is leaving it to burn as they say there’s too much unexploded ordinance up there.

When we got back to the car we found 60 other cars parked along the grass verge, and hoards of people walking the 1.5 miles to Linhope Spout to bathe. There was so little water in the burn they’d be lucky to find space. The Ingram Valley was heaving with visitors parked on every available bit of flat ground - kids paddling, parents sunbathing, men watching BBQs, dogs running about. I bet the NP ranger will have to do a thorough check tonight that all fires are out.

This weather is just wonderful, and it is so nice so many are out enjoying the countryside.

We were home in tim3 for me to make food and the others all brought contributions. We have never been able to eat outside at 8pm before.

The Blip is Marg and Chris, with Mr C keeping Colin and Gerry company in the rear, as Gerry has a problem with his back.
