I do hope Bradley Wiggins and Shane Sutton make complete and speedy recoveries after being knocked of their bikes.

I wonder how many others have ended up in hospital today after the motorist didn't see the cyclist.

Bradley Wiggins has called for things like helmets and lights to be legally required on bikes.

I would go further and insist on high visibility reflective clothing and training also being required.

Last year I spent an excellent day doing bikeability. I hadn't done any cycle training since my Cycling Proficiency 40 years ago and I reckoned an update would be beneficial.

I learned about primary and secondary cycling positions; how to make myself bigger while on the bike; and most importantly The Stare. It's amazing how drivers give a cyclist more room when the cyclist looks them in the eye!

I now have the confidence to ride assertively so that traffic allows me to use the road, change lanes on dual carriageways, and I now know that not all cycle lanes are safe for cyclists! One of the best £60 I ever spent.
