La Dent du Chat

This is the rock formation on the Mont du Chat in the south of the massif du Jura that has an altitude of 1,390 metres, and which we had planned to climb.

We drove the car on hairpin bends for 14km to reach the parking at the highest point of 1500m at the Relais mast. It is a 45 minute walk to the Mont du Chat. The terrain is very rocky and our walking sandals were not the most appropriate footwear. We stopped at Molard Noir (1,452m ) from where I blipped the Dent du Chat.

The footpath from the Molard Noir had a tricky descent and we were reluctant to proceed. We had not realised that to ascend the Dent required rock climbing skills and appropriate gear. The tourist office map was very basic and a lack of WiFi revealed very little of the rock and how to climb to its summit. We decided instead to admire the stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains.

We had a lovely picnic near the Relais and a short walk in the other direction following the route of last year's Tour de France bike race Stage 9.

Relaxing now on our balcony watching the boats and kite surfers on the lake.
