Quilt

 at the Round Valley Quilt & Fiber Arts Show.

       Quilting has many avid practitioners in the US. The lady on the right of the photo is talking about how she acquired this quilt at a garage (car boot/swap meet) sale for . . . . a quarter (25¢). The lady inspecting the quilt is an appraiser and knows her stuff about antique fabric materials and patterns and valued this piece at $400 - 600. If there was documented provenance it would be worth a lot more.

       I met Janet who was carding wool from her own Merino sheep. Before cattlemen came to what was then the Territory of Arizona great herds of sheep roamed the grasslands tended by mainly Basque sheepherders (shepherds in English ;-) ). Some family names in the area are of Basque origin.  Anyway, we were chatting and of course she remarked on my accent and said her husband was from Great Yarmouth and that she had studied in London. I think I spent more time chatting than snapping.

       There were vendors and hands-on opportunities too (extra). The rest at the usual place.

       I walked Kiki by the river this morning at sunrise but it was already quite warm and the beavers were listless. Very few birds; but the mosquitoes were already active . . .
