Calabrian Coast*
We got up early and drove to Messina where we got on an early ferry to the mainland. It"s a very good service, a continuous shuttle and the actual crossing only takes about half an hour, but there are two different ferry companies departing from different places and it's not always clear where the embarkation point is. They need much clearer signposting.
We have driven over the end of the toe of the Italian boot crawled up underneath the toes and are now on the ball of the foot , the metatarsal heads, the bit which presses on the ground rather painfully if you wear an outrageously high heel. We are at a place called Cirò. It has a lovely beach.
We took our photos from a viewpoint overlooking a beautiful bit of Calabrian coastline which featured unspoilt rocky sandy beaches and Acquamarine water, near Montepaone. I began to wonder why we went to Sicily as this coast beats anything we saw there.
It was a long drive and we have another one tomorrow.
