TEMPLE
Our planned event for today cancelled so a mystery tour was in order. We ended up at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal. This is a World Heritage Site, set in 323 hectares (800 acres) of beautiful countryside.
This is a view through the beautiful landscaped Georgian water garden of Studley Royal, showing the Moon Pond and the Temple of Piety from across the water garden.
The Temple of Piety was started in 1729-30 by John Aislabie as a dedication to Hercules.
The magnificent 12th-century Cistercian Abbey ruins lie around the corner and on the hills about a medieval deer park. Excellent and lovely autumnal weather too !
