To Norway and Beyond

Old-fashioned Heating

I'm sorry I've gotten so behind on these, but with moving and trying to put the new apartment together I haven't had much opportunity to take pictures, or much to take pictures of really. I might go back an fill in the gaps later on, I'll see. For now I'll just keep going forward daily.

It's pretty common in Norway to use fireplaces to heat your house in the winter. Walking around town you can smell burning wood, sort of like a permanent campire. I find it quite comforting. The place we've moved into has no heating installed other than the fireplace. Knud brought an electric heater, but we're probably going to be using this fireplace to keep warm. We've currently been stealing some firewood from the neighbours stash in the basement, but we're going to have to buy our own soon.

Today it got quite chilly so I nicked some wood and Knud showed me how to light a fire, and how to open the vents to allow air in.
