Holy Island

Today we drove over the causeway at low tide to Lindisfarne.

Most people who go across spend the time going to the Castle and the souvenir shops. You have about six hours before the next tide covers the causeway.

We spent almost all that time botanising. The dunes on the Island have many interesting things.

There are thousands of orchids. The main picture is a Northern Marsh Orchid but there are special things like Lindisfarne Helleborine.
The extras show a young pied wagtail and some hundred seals in the distance.
