UNEXPECTED MERGANSER IN THE BLIPPING AREA

I had ten minutes after our concert rehearsal before I had to go home and change, so I went and peered over the sea wall at a quiet bit of beach at the entrance to the port and saw quite a few young Eiders moulting into adult plumage under the supervision of some adults, and a whole lot of sleeping Oystercatchers. It wasn't until I checked my photos this evening that I realised that one of the moulting youngsters was a Red Breasted Merganser. Bonus!

The concert was successful despite - or possibly because of - the lack of sequins.
