Solfar

Solfar in Icelandic, or Sun Voyager, was made by Jon Gunnar Arnason in 1986. It is beside the waterfront walk in Reykjavik and I passed it on my walk to the conference this morning.

A plaque beside the entry to the area around the sculpture records the sculptor as saying that in his ships he unites his own fantasy about sailing away into a dream, with the precision and knowledge developed over a long time by boat builders. The viewer of his work will decide for herself where Solfar will take her.

Today was an excellent day with something out of every session.
