Struggling into the air
First day of the conference. Just the afternoon. A couple of plenary lectures. Afterwards, I collected S from the hotel, and we walked to the old harbour to check in for a boat trip out on the harbour to see puffins. They got us into waterproof gear and life jackets; very like the jet boat trip on the Shotover River 18 months ago with the boys.
It was a great trip, and we saw puffins on the islands, in the water, in the air, and transitioning from water to air as this shows.
Also, we saw eiders (male and female), guillemots, fulmars (my extra is of a fulmar in flight), blackbacked gulls, kittiwakes, shags. No doubt there were other birds there, seen and not recognised.
