And still they come.

This amazing weather is persuading plants in my little alpine/cactus house that they must be back in the sunnier lands from which they came. It looks as if they may provide more blips in the coming week.

Today it is the turn of Gymnocalicium hennsii. This name comes from the Greek and means naked calyx. This refers to the fact that the flower buds have no hairs or spines.

This cacti genus comes mainly from Argentina and the countries which adjoin it. I try to find the varieties which come from high in the mountains because they are better at copingwith low winter temperatures.

This is a young plant and has just one flower, but as you may see later in the week they can have several.
