Elbphilharmonie
Today's highlight was a visit to the Elbphilharmonie a spectacular concert hall in the ambitious Hafen City development of the docklands on the River Elbe. A public plaza half way up the building provides a walkway around all for sides, from which there were some great views and some even better opportunities for reflection shots of the crowds and some colourful images of other visitors.
Later, I wandered up and down the canals in the Speicherstadt area, former docklands and the largest warehouse district in the world, built between 1883 and 1927, half destroyed in World War 2 then rebuilt by 1967.
Nearby are some striking modern buildings and another highlight of the city - the Chilehaus, built in 1922 - 24.
After a super lunch of massive fresh asparagus, we went for a long walk by the Outer Alster Lake which has a vibrant surrounding area and a distant view of the Elbphilharmonie..
