Electronic Ears

From the spring (I think) of 2012, I did ninety shows on Indigo FM, the hyper-local radio station that didn't serve much of the country other than Kirkby Lonsdale, although the stats showed there were a handful of people who listened online (probably all people I knew on Twitter).

It was harder work than I expected, finding the twenty or so songs to play each week, and then the time to actually record the show itself in the little hut on Salt Pie Lane. To be honest, when the station went under - due to an administrative cock up with the licence - I was actually quite relieved.

But pretty quickly I began to miss it. Not so much the recording of the show as the impetus to go out and find songs to play, which led me to new artists and previously unexplored albums.

So when Cando FM came along and asked if I wanted to do a show for them, I found that I had no hesitation about saying yes. Tomorrow will be my one hundred and twenty-first show for them. And it is better now, even if I say so myself; the couple of years experience I picked up on Indigo made a big difference, an not only to my radio recordings; it's made me far better and talking on the hoof, especially to camera.

But I've been thinking lately about taking a break, a sabbatical if you like. I think that giving up on Surprise Cinema - albeit reluctantly - has made me look at all the other things I'm doing (including Blip).
