New color !
(Apologies for the fast shot of the TV -grabbed my phone when I heard newsman speaking.).
“Trenton Makes....The World Takes”
This 100 year old steel truss bridge spans the Delaware River between Morrisville PA and Trenton NJ. It’s been seen in several key movies over time. So what does the slogan mean? Well in its heyday, Trenton housed a steel plant, rubber plant, lumber plant, 4 famous porcelain companies (Lenox, Cybis & Boehm and Stangl pottery), and numerous other unique businesses, not to mention being New Jersey’s State capital (and had a one-time short stint as USA’s capital city).
The nearly 10’ tall letters on the South side can been seen from the river (duh!), neighboring Route 1 toll bridge and more importantly from the Amtrak train line. The original 1911 letters were wood covered in sequins ( sequins - really?!?). The neon-lit letters got a facelift recently when they were fitted with LED lights. Now the lights can be color-coded for special events, causes or holidays; i.e. green for St Patrick’s Day, pink for Breast Cancer awareness, and Red, White & Blue for the 4th of July! The banner on the TV screen reads in part “Lower Trenton Bridge .... Iconic Sign Re-illumination....
It’s definitely iconic.
