Cloud Watching
I learned something about another German figure of speech today. The way to say that someone draws the short straw is not the 1:1 "er zieht das kurze Stroh". It is rather "er zieht die Arschkarte" which 1:1 in Englisch would be "he draws the @rse card". This originates from Football. German referees keep their yellow cards in their breast pocket and their red cards in the back pocket of their shorts. And so when someone gets sent off in a game of football, he gets shown the Arschkarte.
You never stop learning. Even if it somewhat obscure.
It was a public holiday today and our promised storms did not materialise, so it has been way too hot for most of the day. The clouds attempted to form storms but it was obviously way too effort in this kind of heat, so we'd get these columns of cloud that would just collapse into haze.
