Terminal
I sleep in the spare room, so I won't get woken by Liz leaving for Stavanger at 5:30 am. She brings me well-intentioned tea at 5:00 am, which wakes me anyway. It's summer, and permanently light. It's easy to get out of bed at this time of year.
I drop Freya at school at 7:30. Jacob will make his own way on the bus later. I don't normally drive into Oslo given the choice, but with Liz away it makes logistics easier. I can use the electric-vehicle (EV) lane to Sandvika, but beyond there it's a multiple-occupancy EV lane, and I'm alone today. It takes me over an hour to get to the old airport terminal at Fornebu, repurposed as a hive for startup tech companies, and the training outfit I'm working with today.
The class runs smoothly. We break for ice-cream in the afternoon and escape from our windowless room into the sun and warmth. I have a short and slightly fraught meeting to discuss another class next week. The class will be under-attended, and so barely worthwhile, especially when the opportunity costs for my time are taken into account. The few attendees have bought air tickets already. It's awkward, and I regret again not having a contract in place with sensible terms and conditions for cancellation. Next time.
The kids are home alone when I get back, but well-behaved. The evening runs smoothly through the routine of domestic chores, and with the ironing done, I find myself out on the stoep in daylight at 11 pm, with a glass of Chardonnay.
