Summer evening

Basil enjoyed a little session in the garden this evening, sitting on the lawn, as he's done for the 15 years we've lived here. It was nice to see him looking happy again as we ended up at the emergency vet's at 1am this morning and again at 11am. This was due to his extreme panting and a fall down the stairs. To cut a long story short, it seems that the temporary changes to his medication due to his rhinitis have left him to exposed to the pain he would otherwise normally suffer from his arthritic hips which, in combination with the hot weather, have left him in pain and stressed. He is now on Paracetamol for the pain while the steroid injection he had last night runs its course and the plan would have been to put him back on his Previcox (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories) tomorrow. However, blood tests he had done today have shown up a kidney issue which is incompatible with the Previcox, so we'll find out tomorrow, when we go to our usual vet's, what we can do about his arthritic pain. It's no fun getting old :(
