Speckled wood

Another day, another butterfly!
If you have time do check out my Common blue butterfly from yesterday, a much better shot than this offering from today, which not only has rather harsh lighting, but the little toad just wouldn't open it's wings!
The Speckled wood butterfly Pararge aegeria is a common little butterfly of woodland clearings and rides, where it sits on vegetation waiting to chase other butterflies away.
It is unique in British butterflies as it can hibernate as either a larva or a pupa, the adults fly between March and October and feed on honeydew.
