Monday: Motel

If I had the opportunity, I would do a whole blip journal about motels. And maybe 'Americana' too - but definitely motels. I think they're fascinating. This was our accommodation in Powell River.

We drove north from Powell River to Lund this morning. It's picturesque but there's little there. It's significant, though, because it's Mile 0 of Highway 101. Stay on that road for just over 15,000 miles and you reach Quellón in Chile. Wouldn't that be an amazing roadtrip?

From there, we headed back, via the ferry, to Skookumchuk Narrows. We were lucky with the ferry - it's first come, first serve and we were one of the last three to make it on. If we hadn't, there would have been a pretty long wait for the next one.

At the Narrows we 'hiked' for about 8 km (4 km each way) to see the rapids and whirlpools. You could see they were potentially impressive but the water was pretty calm today.

Dinner in Gibsons and then the ferry back home. It was delayed so we were quite late home. A great weekend away.

I've added 'prettier' shots of Skookumchuk in extras.
