The Defender of the Net

Last week, we discovered that a mother robin had built a nest on the back support of Merrick's basketball pole. Today, she let me take one picture of her on the nest, and then she posed defiantly on the rim. Adding to her defiance (believe it or not), she started to threaten me.

"IF YOU WANT A BIRD BRAWL,
GO AHEAD...SHOOT THE BALL!"

"IF YOU WANT ME TO GET HOT...
GO AHEAD...TAKE A SHOT!"

"I'LL BLOW A GASKET,
IF YOU SHOOT A BASKET!"

"I'LL KNOCK YOU FOR A LOOP...
IF YOU SHOOT AT THIS HOOP!"

"DON'T MAKE ME UPSET!
DON'T SHOOT AT THIS NET!"

I backed away.
I packed up my camera.
I left.
