Schlime
(correctly spelt; Schleim)
Was the word for today. Trying to explain mucus, saliva and choking to someone who's first language (even though her English was exceptional) is German generated much hilarity.
It was too nice again so we packed full bags and wandered back up to the crag to get as practical as possible, this has been my most outdoor Outdoor First Aid course yet.
The woods are currently alive with wild garlic, Welsh poppies and celandine - but the focus of the day was learning not blipping. We seemed to achieve that pretty well as all three passed with a 95% pass mark.
Asides & besides
Yesterday was a royal wedding. I'm totally ambivalent about the Royal's. A lot of my friends are, let's say, à little left of centre. I've less than no interest in watching (anything) if I can be (doing anything) outdoors.
But, and it's a big but, I loved what I saw of the wedding and especially how the media reported it.
Yesterday pretty much the world's entire media celebrated that most precious of things, something we desperately need more of in the world, the one thing that conquers hate, that crazy little thing called Love.
Whether they liked it or not the barons of media, industry and politics didn't get to make war sexy so they could sell more missiles, to decry foreigners to keep us scared or to tell us how much better off we could be if we just spent more with them. Yesterday there were no bombs, war seemed to stop, brexit paused. Papers, TV and the interwebby stopped showing the worst of us and had to show us something else.
Yesterday à thing as simple as two people looking into each others eyes and sharing a kiss captivated a planet, made us pause for a moment, made us reach out and put an arm round someone.
Thats the power of love.
The world needs more love.
