The bogbean is an attractive little flower which grows in shallow water or bogs and marshes and appears in May and June.  The pink buds then open to look like little white stars fringed with hairs. Later the fruit resembles a small bean and the leaves are shaped a little like those of broad beans, hence its name.  Traditionally the roots were used as a cure-all by many country people and sometimes also in bread making and the leaves have been used as a substitute for hops in beer.  So it was quite highly valued but not easy to gather in swampy wet ground and today definitely not easy to get a good photo without getting wet feet. The extra shows the plants growing with the sun sparkling on the water.
