Bermondsey Square + Chameleon
I'll tell you one of my chief pleasures in life: it's when you see a friend doing the thing that they do professionally (or as an expert) really well. I mean, to you, normally, they're just this person that you have a drink and a chat with, but then you see them in a context in which they excel and you think "Wow! Look at you being this whole other amazing person."
I experienced that today with my friend - technically friend of a friend - Tom, whom I first met at a Wire gig a few years back and have seen on a handful of occasions since, most recently, I think, at the Kraftwerk gig at the Royal Albert Hall. (Actually, maybe once since then.)
Today, the Minx and I went to his company, Chameleon, to talk about marketing and he was absolutely amazing. Still 100% Tom, no two ways about that, but now Tom being brilliant in a different way. It was marvellous to watch him in action.
Prior to that, we'd come out of the hotel, this morning, to find the square full of traders, which was a lovely atmosphere to emerge into. And after soaking that up for a few minutes - and taking a couple of photos - we went across the road to a little coffee place we'd spotted, last night, for breakfast.
