We had the day planned. Drive north of Keswick and park at Dodd Wood. A walk up Dodd followed by coffee and cake, then a wander around the gardens at Mirehouse across the road. 

Unfortunately I'd already fed the car park machine £6.30 when my husband noticed the sign about areas of forest being out of bounds for felling and footpaths closed. The circular route on Dodd was impossible and the only option was indirect and taking in more forest road than normal. Not as enjoyable as the route we've done before.

Coffee afterwards was appreciated and the gardens and lakeshore wander over the road were pleasant.
