Floors Officially Done

That's it - floors in this place are officially done. Thank heavens.

They look fantastic. Absolutely brilliant. But...I know where we went wrong though.

First problem is that they were not sanded enough. Next floor I'll do, they will get sanded a lot more than this, and we will take the sanding paper to the highest grade we can get for the floor sander as well.

When it comes to our floors at the new house, I'll be hand sanding these floors to maybe 220 grit. (Machine sand first obviously).

But next time, we'll be sanding with the main floor sander for many more hours than these got.

Second, less gouging out. There are a few places where we kinda went at the floor like a maniac and gouged bits of the floor with the various sanders. I know why we did that, but next time - we shouldn't. We can only console ourselves that bits of the floor will be covered with furniture. One bit was especially bad. With any luck that really will be under a bed.

Third, not so rough with the edge sander....Maybe use the edge sander first (and last) so that we aim for a consistent depth of gouging, which will enhance the colours.

Fourth, hand sand (with a normal electric sander) after every coat and use LOTS and LOTS of sand paper each time. The finish at our house will be glass like. We managed that in areas on this floor, but our personal floors will be much much smoother than this. (Not that this was exactly rough!).

However, all in all, the floors are fantastic, and anyone who has seen them has loved them. Anyone who saw them before we did this to them, think we are gods right now.
