Happy Samhuinn!

Because I still haven't caught up with my back-blipping you've missed out on the exciting run up to this year's Samhuinn festival. Myself & N decided to run a summer based group this year. However, we didn't want to do the typical summer group that has been done in previous years, a summer at it's freshest and brightest. We wanted to do summer at the stage it is at by the end of October. A summer clinging on to the last drops of the euphoria they felt at midsummer, turned twisted and demented, they should have gone through autumn but instead they have begun to rot and fall apart. We invited people to join us in our debauched ceilidh and this is what we based our performance on.

We had a minor hiccup in the afternoon when there was a problem with the getting ready space (cue a frantic 3 hours whilst I tried to make my flat hospitable for 14 people to get painted up and costumed in). The group really did us proud, their costumes were brilliant, their characters scarily demented and their ceilidh dancing looked like the last drunken dance of the night at a wedding (but without a drop of alcohol). We got a couple of shots of our group before we headed out for the parade.

It occurred to me last night, I never really understood why people go to the effort of making a big fuss at Halloween, carving lanterns, decorating their houses, wearing costumes, going trick or treating or out to parties. Then I realised I've just spent over two months preparing for the version of Halloween that I celebrate (though I'd like to point out that Samhuinn came first)
