Taos Pueblo

We had a busy sightseeing day today.  We had planned to see more than we did, thought we could see everything in two days, but we ran out of energy in the afternoon and decided to come back and relax.  We started the day at San Francisco de Asis church which is an old mission dating back to the early 1800s.  It was beautiful and interesting.  Then we went to the Pueblo, my main blip, where we spent a few hours, starting with a guided tour with interesting information about its history and the people that still live there in adobe houses without electricity.  This building and the rest of the Pueblo was constucted sometime between 1000 and 1450 A.D.   After the tour we walked around on our own visiting the various artists selling their wares out of their homes.  My first extra is the ruins of the original St. Jerome's church and cemetery which was destroyed by the U.S. Army in 1847 in the war with Mexico.  A new church was built to replace it in 1850 and is still in use today.  From there we drove about 10 miles out of town to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge which is 565 feet (172 m) above the river.  Piper and her dad didn't want to walk out on the bridge so they waited while I did.  They missed out on an amazing view (my second extra).  It doesn't sound like we did much but I had over 10,000 steps on my Fitbit and we were all tired so that was it for today.  Tomorrow is another day, and, sadly, our last one.  I should have planned more days here!

I am grateful that we are healthy and able to do as much as we did today!  Hoping for more energy tomorrow!
