Embellished Cock
I went to take some photos of a haunted house today, but noticed this embellished cock on the way there.
This week our thoughts must lie with the people of the eastern seaboard of the US, who are coming to terms with the loss of lives and devastating damage to property.
Back in October 1987, we has a mere taster of what the US is experiencing during 'The Great Storm' that hit the south of England.
During the afternoon of the 15th October 1987, this golden cockerel took flight from his perch at the top of the church spire and spun frighteningly close to my head before landing a short distance from me as I walked through the churchyard. When at ground level it is surprisingly large - about 4 ft high.
The church took advantage of his leap to earth to have him re gilded before he was replaced. I guess I was walking in the right place for divine intervention on that day!
I bought a last minute pumpkin this afternoon from the local farm shop that had also grown them. The skin was so thick and tough that I almost got a hacksaw out just to cut the top off. With visions of amputated digits and bloody pumpkin flesh, I kept the face to a minimalist 2 eyes & a straight mouth, unlike last year, when my pumpkins were far more cooperative.
Hope you're all suitably dressed and tricked and treated evening. Sadly no one ever calls here .... they're not brave enough.
