Birthday Present
The Roma backblips start here!
Today was an absolutely wonderful first full day in Rome and I had a splendid birthday, thanks to Tim, the sunshine and the gelato.
We had a deliciously slow morning at the Airbnb and then took the magic 71 bus into town. The final stop is near the Spanish Steps so we started there. We then just wandered as we liked, strolling down streets because we liked the light and the buildings.
We stopped in a square whose name has been forgotten and popped into a church. Just outside the church was a statue of a homeless Jesus by Timothy Schmalz (in the extras) (like the one we found on 8 April). It seemed so apt with the homeless man nearby who uses the church as a resting spot.
I noticed the older women also sitting outside the church and they appeared to be having a good chat and were very kind when I asked to take their photo (in the extras). After that we had gelato.
We ended up in the Piazza dei Popolo where Tim thought it was a good idea to have an Aperol Spritz. He has such good ideas.
We got home late after a wonderful, wonderful day wandering, taking photos, eating gelato and revelling in the sunshine. What more could a prairie gal ask for? Grazie mille Tim.
