Breakfast in the restaurant this morning before check-out and then we stopped off on the Skyland Drive to hike along the Meadow Spring Trail to Mary’s Rock – it was lovely and clear this morning and the views were fantastic. We saw deer in the woods too. Then we drove to Washington and found our air B’n’B, the upper of floor of a turn-of-the-century duplex terrace near the Naval Yards and right by the Nationals’ Ballpark. In the afternoon we got the Metro over to the National Mall and visited the Natural History Museum and then we dashed back in time to layer up, get to the Ballpark and buy a bright red cap before the game. And now that we’re old hands at this baseball business, we had a bucket of chicken and fries during the First Innings and all sang along when it came time for ‘Take Me Out To The Ballgame.’ More obscurely, every game at Nationals Park also hosts the bizarre 4th Innnings ritual of the Presidents Race, where big-headed effigies of Abraham Lincoln and friends run competitively around the field for no apparent reason…
