AT147 Abstract Thursday: The Royal Arcade
This is a view of the glass roof over the Grade 2 listed Victorian Arcade (The Royal Arcade, also known as Bournemouth, Gervis, or simply The Arcade), a legacy of Bournemouth’s heyday.
Lovely to wander through, with the ‘elegant’ Westover Road at one end (bravely hanging on to its Bond Street image) and Old Christchurch Road at the other (High Street shopping).
Constructed in 1866 by Henry Joy. The glazed domed roof was added in 1872 and includes coloured glass end panels and an original 19C clock at the eastern end.
Sort of graphic impressionist image perhaps?
