There and back again

The 2.30pm to Waterloo

The London bound train flashes through the Devon countryside towards Axminster station, its passengers in the main unaware that out here, life in the Axe Valley goes on as it has for centuries.

Not far from this spot the Axminster by-pass carries traffic along the A35 road while just under its tarmac surface lies the Roman road which carried traffic, westward towards the City of Isca.

For nearly 2000 years people have traveled along this valley and still cattle graze in the fields along the river and swans paddle along the River Yarty to where it joins the River Axe
