Unfinished Business
Dear Budapest!
Sorry I haven't been in touch for such a long time....nine years to be exact. During the three and a half years we lived here from 2006 to 2009 you were our home. Thank you for that. I never got time to thank you before we left and there was no time to explain our sudden departure either and I'll do that now. In spring of 2009 my dad (who loved you, by the way) was taken into hospital. We knew it was serious, and very soon after he was diagnosed as having MND - motor neuron disease. I left my full-time job as teacher trainer in IH here and returned to Kirkcaldy, my hometown and where dad lived. Bb joined me not long after, having decided to leave his job there too. We basically lived there till dad passed away in October of that year.
When we lived here you also welcomed and worked your charms on our friends: my dad; Bb's mum; Colleen; Ann and Dermott; Liz-Anne (no longer with us); Bb's sister and family; Jamie,Therese and their girls; Dot; Alex; Oeilduchat; Thomas from Norway; Celia; Viv and Howard.
It's lovely to be back and see you again. Really lovely. However, we had a complicated relationship. Your people, weather, language and my still being attached to London all contributed to that. I tried really hard to love you fully, but it never quite worked out for us. I see you're still struggling with politics - this photo shows people marching on Andrassy against those elected again last weekend. We saw many such protests while we lived here.
Anyway, that's enough for now. Thanks again for those 3 and and a half years and I'm looking forward to getting to know you again.
Nagyon köszönöm,
Digitaldaze
PS
Some extra photos . . . Our local Italian with owner, Luca; the place we had lunch today; and an outside view of our wee airbnb flat, which is fab - tastefully renovated, with a little balcony overlooking the inner courtyard and in the Jewish area near the synagogue.
