Dancing
There is a lot more public singing and dancing in China than in the UK. Maybe we are too reserved? A lot of it is being done for fun but some people, like these two, take it very seriously.
What I’m happy to be reserved about is strange men touching me. This square in the centre of town was full of people dancing, and singing and socialising, but also a small group of men who followed me around stroking my hands and trying to take selfies with. The selfies are a regular occurrence in some places in China because people want to show their friends on WeChat that they met somebody different, and sometimes old women will touch you and tell you you are so white, but as my Chinese colleague pointed out ‘I think these guys were taking advantage of that to be creepy. They would do it to Chinese girls too but they know foreigners won’t do anything about it’
